Biblis hyperia
Andrew V. Z. BrowerIntroduction
Although the red hindwing band is positioned differently, it has been suggested that Biblis hyperia may be a facultative Müllerian mimic of co-occurring Heliconius butterflies in Trinidad and other areas where they exhibit black wings with a red forewing band. It also bears a potentially mimetic resemblance to various Parides (Papilonidae).
Nomenclature
The generic name Didonis H?bner [1819] was applied incorrectly for many years to this taxon, but the type species of that name (Papilio vitellia Stoll [1781]) is a subjective junior synonym of Elymnias jynx, the type species of Elymnias H?bner 1819 (Satyrinae).References
