A group of relatively long-legged, fast running salticids commonnest in
East and SE, but with a rare species in California.

Two groups recognized on basis of thickness of embolus: Maevia s.s. (inclemens, intermedia, expansa, and several undescribed species) and (subgenus or genus) Paramaevia (hobbsae, michelsoni, poultoni).

Identification
The legs are long and thin. Males of at least subgenus Maevia have long hairs on third leg.
Habitat
Forest leaf litter and understory vegetation; also on shrubs and other vegetation outside of forests.
