Comments This photograph reveals smallpox virus pocks on the chorioallantoic membrane of a developing embryonic chick. Poxviruses are very easy to isolate, and will grow in a variety of cell cultures, producing characteristic hemorrhagic pocks on the embryonic chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM).
