Cleide Costa

Entomologist specialist in systematic, bionomics and metamorphosis of Coleoptera; researcher and lecturer in the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo, where she still works and orientate post–graduate students even after her retirement. Has Natural History degree by the “Universidade Estadual de São Paulo” and PhD. in Zoology by the “Universidade de São Paulo”. At the Museum of Zoology exercised leadership of Entomology for several periods. As Professor taught discipline "Metamorphosis of Insects" in several post–graduate courses Her research projects involve the study of immature morphology of insects in general and of Coleoptera in particular. Her main focus is the Elateroidea mainly the family Elateridae, which includes cladistics analyses of various groups. Also develops studies on bioluminescence of Pyrophorini, which includes multi-disciplinary approach to better understand of the origin and evolution of bioluminescence of beetles. In the area of biodiversity published several scientific articles on diagnostics of Brazilian collections of Coleoptera.
