Scientific Name | Coelioxys inermis |

Location | Shrewsbury, United Kingdom |
Specimen Condition | Live Specimen |
Behavior | Coelioxys parasitise leafcutter bees in the genus Megachile. This female was hanging around on one of my bee posts, waiting for a female Megachile to vacate the premises, so that she could enter the nest and lay her egg. When her egg hatches, it seeks out the Megachile larvae and kills it with its large sickle shaped jaws. Then the Coelioxys larvae feeds on the food layed down by the host bee. |
