Introduction

Clinidium is a large genus with 5 subgenera and 64 species. Most species are neotropical, but there are a few in North America and one each in Europe and Japan.

A key to the subgenera of Clinidium is available here.

On the pronotum, the paramedian grooves are replaced by basal impressions and discal strioles. The elytra have their striation reduced to 5 or less. The eyes and hind wings are reduced. Most species have two tibial spurs on the middle or hind legs.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
