Introduction

Marchena is the only North American respresentative of the common Old World subfamily Heliophaninae, and is immediately separated from others in the area by the tubercles on the first leg. Along the front face of the first femur are a series of 3-5 tubercles, each bearing a seta. The carapace side is rugose, and together with the tubercles probably forms a stridulatory apparatus. Bark-dwelling on conifers in California, Washington, Nevada.
