Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
Based on SSU rDNA sequences Vahlkampfia ustiana turned out not to belong to the genus Vahlkampfia and a new genus was established, Paravahlkampfia (Brown and De Jonckheere 1999). A vahlkampfiid strain was isolated from a lizard with an almost identical SSU rDNA sequence as the type strain (Schuster et al. 2003). Another species, P. lenta, was isolated from soil (Brown and De Jonckheere 2004).
