Introduction
Ameroglymmius is a subgenus with three known species from eastern South America and Cuba. It is not known from Central America or the Andean region.
Characteristics
The apical stylet of the antenna is vestigial or absent. The antennal sclerites are well separated. The clypeal setae are absent, and the transverse groove between the clypeus and the median lobe is shallow to deep. The medial margins of the temporal lobes are angulate, either contiguous or slightly separated. The orbital groove and the temporal setae are absent. The postorbital tubercle is present. There is one pair of postlabial setae.

The paramedian grooves of the pronotum are at least partly coarsely punctate, broad, deep, gradually tapered anteriorly, and about 0.95 of the length of the pronotum. The base of the elytron is either rounded opposite the base of interval I or else it has a rounded tooth. The abdominal sterna have punctures irregularly distributed. The female has enlarged lateral pits in sternum IV.
