Habitat

Brachoria hubrichti specimens were collected during the day (16:30) on the north facing bank of Barren Fork in a maple forest in McMinnville, Tennessee.  Individuals were found beneath layers of decomposing leaf material, predominately maple, about 20 m above (south) of the river.  One other xystodesmid encountered sympatrically at this locality is Brachoria initialis, which appears similar in coloration with B. hubrichti.  It is unknown whether this similarity is a result of mimicry.

Distribution

Brachoria hubrichti is known from the Eastern Highland Rim east to the western rolling hills of the Ridge and Valleys of Tennessee.  It is predominately in an area surrounding the Sequatchie Valley from Tennessee to northeastern Alabama.  Individuals have been collected from about a dozen localities in Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, Putnam, Sequatchie, Warren, and White counties in Tennessee, and Jackson County, Alabama.

Conservation status

Brachoria hendrixsoni is threatened by habitat loss due to agriculture (especially growing demand for paper products), coal mining, development, and the invasion of exotic species.

This page is a Tree of Life Leaf Page.

Each ToL leaf page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a leaf at the tip of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a leaf and a branch of the Tree of Life is that a leaf cannot generally be further subdivided into subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
