Nematolampas

Introduction
Nematolampas contains two species each of which is known from only a few males. One species, N. regalis, is from the subtropical South Pacific and the other, N. venezuelensis, is from the tropical North Atlantic.

Characteristics
- Arms
- Arms III much longer than mantle length, distally without suckers and thread-like.
- Photophores
- Large photophore at posterior mantle apex absent.
- Numerous photophores on arms III.
- Photophores on arms II and III subterminal.
- Each tentacle with two photophores.
- Middle ocular photophore largest.
- Viscera
- Males with single set of genitalia.
Comments
The two species are most easily separated by the structure of arms II. In N. regalis arms II are unmodified in size and shape while in N. venezuelensis they are greatly elongated (but not as long and robust as arms III) and have filamentous tips.
