Containing group: Chlamydopsinae

Introduction

The 18 known species of Orectoscelis range from central and northern Queensland, Australia north through New Guinea to Sulawesi. It is a heterogeneous group, with several Indonesian species currently included on questionable grounds, and a number of species described in this genus by Caterino (2000) have already been removed (Dégallier & Caterino, 2005). Nothing is known about the biology of any of the species.

Characteristics

The unquestioned species of Orectoscelis all share a circular elytral trichome, lined with a single series of marginal setae. Most have paired pronotal tubercles, frequently (though not in all species) removed from the anterior pronotal margin. They all share a hidden scutellum with several related genera.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
