Characteristics

  1. Arms
    1. Arm suckers in two series.
    2. Hectocotylus with 3-4 basal suckers followed by a copulatory apparatus with 3-4 tubercules; distally arm with spoon-like widening.

  2. Tentacles
    1. Tentacular club with suckers in 16-32 series.

  3. Photophores.
    1. Photophores absent.

  4. Gladius
    1. Gladius weakly developed ("... a very delicate, colorless thread ... which is difficult to find." Naef, 1921-23.)

Distribution

Eastern Atlantic Ocean from southern Norway to Mediterranean Sea and near Madeira (Nesis, 1982/1987). The are found at depth from 3-400 m in the Mediterranean Sea (Naef, 1921-23).
