Usually black (in desert or prairie habitats may be pale) ground-dwelling salticids with central pale chevronned stripe on abdomen.

One of our few genera that is also well-represented in the Old World; indeed some of our species may be holarctic (laggani may be ignifrons, montanus may be lapponicus).

Identification

Related to Habronattus but males lack ornaments except sometimes reddish face and slightly hairy and enlarged first legs. Like Habronattus, third leg patella+tibia longer than same fo fourth leg. The genitalia are distinctive, with an embolus fixed the the tegulum.

Habitat

Ground dwelling in similar habitats as Habronattus, but concentrated in the North and higher elevations.
