Treehouses on the Tree of Life
Treehouses are pages attached to the Tree of Life project that contain additional information about the organisms on the associated branch; they are designed for children or the young at heart. Our goal is to have treehouses sprinkled throughout the Tree, as authors' time and resources permit.
The Tree of Life is currently in the process of developing tools that will make the project a more valuable resource for people who are not advanced students or professional biologists. To find out more about these efforts, please visit the Learning with the Tree of Life pages.
Currently there are only a few treehouses on the Tree:
- This treehouse isn't finished yet, but it will give you an hint about what one style of treehouse might be like.
- The Sonoran Desert Endangered Species Card Game teaches about the habitat, range and status of nine Sonoran Desert Endangered Species.
- This unit provides an overview of lizard biology culminating in the "Life as a Lizard" role playing game. The game gives students a chance to move around indoors or outdoors and use their movement to learn about lizards and their behavior. Participants take on the identities of lizards and act out a day and night in the life of many different species of lizard. The game's props are easily made and the unit contains step by step lessons with national science standards, glossary words, background information, internet and multimedia resources, trivia activities, and suggestions for additonal student investigations.
Once we have more treehouses, this page will serve as a portal to this part of the ToL project. It will contain links to some sample treehouses, and it will feature a search facility, which you can use to locate treehouses that interest you.
