Acquiring ToL-MacClade

As part of the Tree of Life's conversion to a database-driven system, we will be developing new data entry tools that will allow ToL authors to compose and edit their pages remotely using a wysiwyg interface. These new tools will not be available for a few months, and for the time being, authors must create their ToL pages with ToL-MacClade, a special version of MacClade, intended only for the production of Tree of Life pages. This special software is only available to contributors to the Tree of Life whose participation has been confirmed by a relevant ToL coordinator. ToL-MacClade requires a computer running MacOS System 7 or later.

You can get the following BINHEXED versions of MacClade via ftp. Access these if the transfer must go through a text phase. To use these you may need to use a program capable of decoding BINHEX files (e.g. Stuffit, Compact Pro, DeHQX, etc.).

In order to be able to unstuff the downloaded archive, you need to get a password from us. Confirmed contributors should contact treegrow@ag.arizona.edu in order to get the necessary information.

A note for authors who want to revise pages that are already connected to the Tree:

During the Tree's transition to the new database system, we are sometimes making small changes in format in different parts of the Tree (changing absolute links into relative links, changing file names and folder hierarchies, tagging pages according to certain properties, etc.) In order to make sure all these changes are preserved in future versions of the Tree of Life, ToL contributors should request a copy of the most recent files for their pages before starting work on a revision. Alternatively, you can also send us instructions on how to revise your files, and we will make the necessary changes for you. Please send all requests and inquiries to treegrow@ag.arizona.edu.
