Amazunculus
Jeff Skevington- Amazunculus besti
- Amazunculus claripennis
- Amazunculus platypodus
Introduction
The three species of Amazunculus are only known from the Amazon basin in South America.
Characteristics
These large flies are the only pipunculids that have the basal third of the wing shaded dark brown. The hind tarsi are also distinctively flattened.
Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
A tribal phylogeny of the Eudorylini (Skevington and Yeates, 2001) includes two Amazunculus exemplars (A. besti and A. platypodus).
