Introduction
There are 42 valid described species of Chalarus. There are only three regional keys that provide useful keys to this genus (Jervis, 1992; Morakote & Hirashima, 1990; Rafael, 1990). Kehlmaier has just started to take a closer look at the systematics of this group .
These tiny flies are mostly parasitoids of Typholcybinae (Cicadellidae).
Characteristics
Chalarus are easy to recognize by their incomplete wing venation (cell M open, cross vein dm-cu absent, vein m reduced).
