Introduction

This species, endemic to dryer regions in the mid-elevation Andes of Ecuador and Peru, was determined to be a distinct species from H. charithonia on the basis of genetic characters by Jiggins and Davies (1998).

Habits

Hostplant: H. peruvianus larvae feed on Passiflora adenopoda, P. rubra, P. suberosa, and P. manicata (Jiggins and Davies, 1998).
