Adult Characteristics

Wingspan 10.5-13.5 mm. Forewing mostly unicolorus, pale golden brown to pale straw yellow. Female generally somewhat lighter. Hindwing uniformly gray.

Comparison with Similar Species

Very similar to, and possibly conspecific with, sublustris. I know of no published traits that distinguish the two species, and members of both entities and intergrades are frequently found together (Pellmyr, unpubl. obs.).

Host, Oviposition, and Larval Feeding Habits

Rosa woodsii (Pellmyr, unpubl. data).

Geographic Distribution

Southern British Columbia, Canada, south to northern California, eastward to Alberta, Canada, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado.

Habitat

Open shrubby grassland with rose shrubs.

Type

Lectotype in British Museum, Natural History.
