Libythea labdaca

Libythea labdaca is found in Western and Central Africa south of the Sahara Desert. It is known to form large migratory swarms twice a year, once in the spring (with mainly southward movements) and once in autumn (with mainly northward movements). In one migration event, over 1 billion butterflies were estimated to have migrated in Ghana. Host plants are in the genus Celtis as is usual in this genus.
