Andrew V. Z. BrowerThis tree diagram shows the relationships between several groups of organisms.
The root of the current tree connects the organisms featured in this tree to their containing group and the rest of the Tree of Life. The basal branching point in the tree represents the ancestor of the other groups in the tree. This ancestor diversified over time into several descendent subgroups, which are represented as internal nodes and terminal taxa to the right.
You can click on the root to travel down the Tree of Life all the way to the root of all Life, and you can click on the names of descendent subgroups to travel up the Tree of Life all the way to individual species.

close boxIntroduction
The three species are neotropical. L. cleobaea and L. paisinuntia are Müllerian mimics of larger "tiger" patterned ithomiines (e. g. Melinaea spp.) and the silvaniform Heliconius species. L. ilione is a Müllerian mimic of large, clear-winged ithomiines Methona and Thyridia, and pericopine and castniid moths. Lycorea specimens may be easily distinguished from these by the shape of the hindwing discal cell, and (in males) by the presence of eversible abdominal hairpencils, which are used during courtship. Recorded larval host plant families include Asclepiadaceae, Caricaceae, Moraceae and Myoporaceae.
Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
Lycorea ilione is sometimes placed in the genus Ituna Doubleday [1847].
