Abraliopsis pacificus

A. pacificus distributes from the Northwest Pacific to Hawaiian waters along the southern border of Kuroshio Current and its extension waters. This species is a typical Abraliopsis-type having scattered photophore arrangement on ventral mantle and head, and carpal flap and distinct aboral keel on club. It is resembles to A. hoylei, A. pfefferi and A. tui. This group also contains several undescribed species.Characteristics
- Tentacle clubs
- Two rows of Different-sized hooks on manus.
- Carpal flap and aboral keel distinct.
- Arms
- Arms IV is relatively long; ALI IV = 62-76.
- Arms with 16 to 25 hooks and 12-25 suckers.
- Hectocotylus
- Hectocotylus with two different-sized flaps: long narrow proximal and short distal ones.
- Integumental Photophores
- Ventral mantle and head with scattered arrangement of integumental organs.
Comments
This group with scattered integumental photophore pattern, is a character-less group and speciate corresponding with each watermass. They are identified by some morphometric or meristic characters such as fin length index, arm length index, hook and sucker count, etc.Distribution
