Introduction
One of the few pronophiline species not found in the Andes, Eteona tisiphone occurs in submontane southeastern Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina. Adults are sexually dimorphic: males with cream-colored patches on the dorsal hindwings, and females with orange patches on fore and hindwings (perhaps Batesian mimics of Actinote spp.?). Larvae feed on bamboo (Chusquea and Merostachys. Freitas (2002) noted that these larvae are quite divergent from those of most other pronophilines, with longer horns on the head capsule and a longer bifid "tail."
