Introduction
The genus Lethe, as here circumscribed, is mainly Eurasian, with many representatives in Indomalaya and some extending as far east as the Philippines. The North American relatives are removed to Enodia and Satyrodes, although the monophyly of Lethe with respect to these has not been tested.
Nomenclature and synonymy
The numerous generic names synonymized here were proposed by Moore and others for various south and east Asian Lethe taxa. Many of these genera are small or monotypic, and it is not clear that the remaining Lethe s. s. would be monophyletic if these taxa were removed. Miller (1968) stated that these genera are "nomenclatorially, though not necessarily biologically, valid genera," and they are all synonymized by Bozano (1999).
