Introduction
A genus occurring in dry forests from Mexico to southern Brazil. Larvae have been found on Bauhinia (Fabaceae).Characteristics
Miller (2009) notes the following diagnostic features:
- Labial palpi short, antennae bipectinate
- Foreleg epiphysis extending beyond the distal end of the tibia
- Males possess a forewing stridulatory organ
Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
The genus was originally described in "Lithosina" (Arctiidae), moved to "Cyllopodinae" (Geometidae: Sterrhinae) by Kirby (1892), and recognized as belonging in Dioptidae by Prout (1918).References
