Tithraustes TS = Tithraustes haemon
James S. Miller and Andrew V. Z. BrowerThis tree diagram shows the relationships between several groups of organisms.
The root of the current tree connects the organisms featured in this tree to their containing group and the rest of the Tree of Life. The basal branching point in the tree represents the ancestor of the other groups in the tree. This ancestor diversified over time into several descendent subgroups, which are represented as internal nodes and terminal taxa to the right.

close boxIntroduction
Formerly a "trash heap" for species that did not clearly belong to other genera, Miller (2009) has reorganized the contents of Tithraustes so that it is now monophyletic, removing a number of species to Dioptis, Nebulosa, and other genera (some even outside of Notodontidae!). The genus ranges from Honduras to western Ecuador, occurring in relatively lowland forest. Larvae have been recorded on a variety of understorey palm genera (Arecaceae) and on Helconia (Heliconiaceae).Characteristics
Tithraustes as recognized by Miller (2009) is a monophyletic group diagnosed by the following character states:
- wings usually hyaline, always with a white band distal to the forewing discal cell
- thin, sickle-shaped labial palpi
- large, bulging eyes
- bipectinate antennae with long, thin rami
- forewing radial sector branching order [[2,3],4]
